This pomegranate heart is less folkloric story and more a stream of consciousness, an embodiment of my spirit, an aching necessity to dive deeper and illuminate the parts of me bursting from within to be seen and heard and felt: a call to my Greek roots, especially Persephone's duality and dichotomy and my personal resonance of being divided between two homes; the Divine Feminine's innate abundance and fertility of passion; the embodiment of blood and binding in witchcraft; the turning of Nature's cyclical wheel into Autumn, my favorite and most potent season; the Empress and High Priestess, two tarot archetypes that have always spoken to me most which are historically illustrated with pomegranate motifs. Perhaps I also found myself illustrating my heart in this way - ruby-filled and radiant amidst the darkness, seeds and sweetness to give in plenty, always already sliced open so you don't have to work at getting in - to best symbolize how I feel and how I love. And, something I hadn't really realized until writing this all out, the blending of human and plant anatomy makes perfect sense for me as in my art and personal magic, I always feel most at home bridging the gap between the human and natural realms.
